Chaqiela Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Himalayan South Belt. The Chaqiela Formation was erected by Wang Yigang, Sun Dongli and He Guoxiong in 1989. The section for the designation is just on the east side of the Chaqiela hill 4 km northwest of the Jilu village of the Gamba County, Xizang (Tibet).
Lithology and Thickness
Lower part of the present formation is represented by yellow green clayey shale with thin-bedded microcrystalline limestone. Middle part is black gray thin-bedded calcareous siltstone and clayey shale. Upper part is yellow gray moderately thick-bedded silty limestone interbedded with siltstone. The formation is over 180 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base contacts conformably with the dark shale interbedded with gray marl at the top of the Gambadongshan Fm.
Upper contact
It underlies conformably under the Lengqinggre Fm.

Fossils
The formation yields foraminifera such as Globigerinelloides eaglefordensis, G. benionensis, G. algeriana, Hedbergella planispira, H.trocoidea, Tricinella roberti, Gyroidina exceria, G.tendami, Gyroidinoides, primitive, G. brotzeni rumanus, Lenticulina warregoensis, etc.; and Ammonites such as Mortoniceras sp., Anisoceras sp., etc. in the Gamba area.
